J & B PRODUCTION ARTS SERVICES is owned and operated by J.E.Ballantyne, Jr. Mr. Ballantyne has been in Live Theatre for approximately 44 years, with 35 of those years being on the professional side. As with many people he began his theatre career in school where he attended Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mt. Lebanon had one of the finest theatre departments in the entire City of Pittsburgh at the time. He learned every aspect of theatre from literally sweeping the floor to acting in small bit parts to working in every technical area. He continued that path in college when he attended Robert Morris College, now Robert Morris University. With two campuses, Mr. Ballantyne was placed in charge of all theatre productions at the downtown campus based on his work in Mt. Lebanon High School. After leaving school, he continued his pursuit and interest in live theatre where he has worked constantly up to this time.
Theatre Biography
Mr. Ballantyne will embark on his 45th year of live theatre next spring. He has been involved in almost 500 productions and has done virtually everything in every aspect of theatre. He has directed and produced such shows as "Carousel," "Dial 'M' for Murder," "Mame," "The Last Night of Ballyhoo," "Nunsense," "1776," "My Fair Lady," "Annie," "The Fantasticks," "Crazy for You," "Wait Until Dark," "Oklahoma," "Murder, My Sweet Matilda," "Some Enchanted Evening - The Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein," "South Pacific," "The Diary of Anne Frank," "And Then They Came for Me," "The Mousetrap," "The Crucible," "Cinderella," and many, many more. He has stage managed for such personalities as Paul Anka, George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Maureen McGovern, Bobby Vinton, and Barbara Eden. In summer stock he has worked for both the Civic Light Opera of Pittsburgh and the Kenley Players. For seven years he was stage manager for Chamber Theatre Productions of Boston and lead fourteen consecutive national tours across the country. As a playwright he has written and produced "Gershwin - Love Is Here to Stay," "The Interview," "Poe," "The Secret Annexe," "A Day in the Park," "JFK - A Breach of Faith," "Specter of Treason - The Oswald Trial," "The Tell-Tale Poe," "Edgar Allan Poe's - The Fall of the House of Usher," "Edgar Allan Poe's - The Tell Tale Heart" and "Block 5." Most of his original shows are available for production by high school, community theatre and professional theatres. Check the "Production Rentals" page on this website for more information. He also spent several years in television working with WQED-TV, where he sometimes worked on "Misteroger's Neighborhood" when a spot needed filled or they were short-handed.

Many production companies price themselves out of the market by refusing to bend to the smaller budgets. You will not find that with us.
